Identity Theft: So I’ve been Catfished…
Hello, my name is Luchae, and I’ve been catfished. And the crowd goes wild.
I know, what an opening statement. But I’ve come here to explain, so I hope you brought your coffee and a comfy blanket.
Okay, so for those of us (yes, I’m looking at you, Magda) who may not know what it means “to be catfished”, Wikipedia explains it rather nicely like this: “On the internet, a “catfish” is someone who creates fake personal profiles on social sites using someone else’s pictures and false biographical information to pretend to be someone else.”
So when I say “I’ve been catfished” it basically means that, yep, I’ve been the victim of a catfish. Someone created a fake personal profile and used my pictures and some of my info, in order to pretend to be someone else.
Rather fun, innit?
I mean, it’s not something that I would be adding to my resume anytime soon, but it definitely gave me a wake up call with regards to internet safety. I know you’re curious now. So here’s the tea:

A couple of years ago (before I met my Hubstopher) I received a very weird Facebook DM from a stranger. The stranger was a young man and upon sleuthing (yes, I’m practically a private investigator okay, don’t undermine my levels of social media investigating) I discovered that homeboy lived in Kwazulu-Natal, was a couple of years my junior and did not have a single mutual friend in common with me.
He also had questionable taste in golfshirts and an apparent love for hair gel, but that’s irrelevant.
Anyhow, I wasn’t exactly thrilled at giving my email address to an obviously emotional lurker, but this guy was as persistent as a mosquito on a hot summers night. Relentless.
Also, I was curious. There, I said it.
After much back and forthing, curiosity won, and I finally gave him my deets.
What he sent to me shocked me!
He began his story right at the beginning, explaining that he had turned to Mxit (90’s kids – hollar) in desperate need of company, after breaking up with the love of his life a few years prior.
For those who dont know (hey TikTokkers) Mxit was the cellphone chatting platform of choice back then. It is different to Whatsapp because you log in to the app via your cellphone number and password each time you want to chat. It was exclusive because you could only chat to people once one of you had invited, and accepted, the other.
So yaaa, homeboy logged onto Mxit, joined a chat room and tried to find new love to help mend his broken heart. Where do broken hearts go? To Mxit, apparently. And it worked, because he met a lovely young lady and the two fell hopelessly inlove with each other. It was like love at first chat. She counseled him through his break up and they shared intimate moments together. It eventually led to them having a serious online relationship where they chatted every day and shared “I love yous”.
They called each other often and sent each other countless photos – he said it felt like they knew each other for years, even though they had never met. He basically went into detail (I mean, he practically wrote a whole Mills&Boons novel) detailing every freckle on her face, the way her head tilted when she smiled, the lines of her cheekbones.
And even though they had never met (and video call wasn’t a thing back then), he would still look at her pics every night, before bed time and say a prayer, before kissing it goodnight. (Yes, kissing the pics goodnight. Yes.)
Clearly the guy was smitten. Now, up until this point, ya girl was engrossed. I mean, how could I not want to know more? He had penned quite a story, and I was waiting for the plot twist.
He went on to detail exactly how inlove they were until the day (plot twist!) when he discovered that girlfriend was not who she said she was. Dum dum duuuummmmm!
In a nutshell, he received the password to her Mxit app and when he logged in, realised that she had lied to him about her identity. She had been lying about her name this whole time. He eventually found out what her real name was and used it to search for her on Facebook. This is where he discovered that she had lied about her age, occupation and hometown too. But, worst of all, she was not the same girl as the one in her pics!
He freaked out (same) and began to look through her Facebook friends list to see if they had any friends in common. And that’s when he spotted her “fake” face… you know, the face that he had been kissing goodnight for years.
And her face belonged to another name. Her face belonged to me. Dum dum duuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!

One of the many pics that he had of me He immediately connected the dots and realized that his girl had been sending him MY photos for years! He felt cheated and betrayed. I dont blame the oke, shame man.
Anyways, and that’s when he decided to make contact with me to let me know that someone was stealing my pics and passing it off as their own. He was extremely emotional about it, saying that he feels like he has been living a lie, because he was so inlove with this girl and it was one big charade.
And as for me? Well, yeah, I was just as freaked out. I immediately changed my privacy settings and, you know, stopped accepting every single friend request.
I kinda begged him to tell me her name, because she obviously was one of my Facebook friends and I wanted to have a word with her (well, a few words… colourful ones maybe). But through it all, his love for her was so strong that he decided to protect her identity. Sigh, what a love story. *crickets chirping*

Found on muslima.com! But wait, there’s more.
As if that wasnt enough to generate a large freak out session, I received another message from a Muslim friend who politely asked me why I (a Christian girl) had uploaded a profile onto Muslim dating website, Muslima.
That’s right, friends, my catfish did it again! This time, she created a fake profile on the dating website, hoping to find a … I don’t know… a husband? Not sure what the end game would be, once she finds said husband and has to explain why her information (and, you know, her actual face) does not fit the info on the website. But hey, I am but a pawn in this game.
The Muslima profile has since been removed.
Thanks to the MTV series ‘Catfish: The TV Show‘ we’ve become a lot more wiser to the concept of “catfishing” (referring to identity theft). I’d like to think that we don’t believe everything we see on the internet anymore. Also, this definition of the word “catfish” has been added to the dictionary. So that’s a win. Well, somewhat.
But, if I could give you advice (I’m no expert, so get a second opinion maybe) it’s this: be mindful of the people you interact with on social media. You don’t have to accept every friend request. Don’t believe everything you see or read. Use reverse image search to find the origin of any images that they’ve sent you. Use common sense and trust your gut, when chatting to strangers.
Also, maybe don’t fall inlove with a girl in a Mxit chatroom.

Feature Friday: Theresia Muller
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.Theresia Muller of Bonamia Restuarant
Today’s FF, Theresia Muller, has a story that is one of those kindsa stories that makes you feel like you can conquer the world! This 29 year old mommy of 1 is married to hubby, Justin, and together they own Bonamia – a restaurant that she happened to waitress at a few years ago!
So yes, Tess went from waitress, to owner. How cool is that?!
After marrying the love of her life, 3 years ago, in a shotgun wedding – just kidding, in a beautiful purple butterfly themed wedding – the Mullers moved to East London were they faced what Tess calls ‘a season in the wilderness’. “God taught us a lot in our wilderness and we soon got to a point where we both felt called for more!” She shared with me.Becoming a business owner was always something Tess had trusted God for, but, as with all dreams that He plants in our hearts, it seemed really, really big! A year later, after finding out that her previous boss was planning to sell Bonamia, she mentioned to Justin that the place was available for purchase. He spontaneously decided that they should attempt to buy it. “We were the least qualified in all spheres of the process but we were pursuing purpose and covered in favour!”
The Mullers won the bid to buy the restaurant and somehow finances came in and they were able to put money down for it. They moved back to Port Elizabeth to pursue their new vocation as restaurateurs and their business has been steadily growing ever since. “It has been growing so much that we were crazy enough to purchase our second one this year and it will probably not be the last!”
There are currently 2 Bonamia branches in Port Elizabeth – The initial restaurant in Walker Drive and the newest edition in Walmer. Both feature a homely but elegant setting with an ABCDlicious menu (that is ever evolving!) and really friendly staff that are willing to accommodate you and your functions.Being a restaurateur is not all fun and games and the Mullers’ are always hard at work, striving to give their customers’ the best dining experience that they can. So couple that with the added energy of 1 year old Joshua (who has a thing for shaking his booty!), and you will understand why Tess lists “sleep” as one of her hobbies! A worshiper at heart, Tess also squeezes in a movie or 2 where she can and loves to socialize on her days off.
She shares that being a good steward when she was “just a waitress” played a big role in the doors that were opened for her and Justin when they decided to purchase the restaurant. “When I was a waitress I treated Bonamia as it was my own (good stewarding). I loved it. I had been in the industry before but fell in love with the place because of all the regular faces I had gotten to know.” She explained.
I love Theresia’s testimony! It is proof that when you dream big with God, then He will make your dreams a reality!
Let’s see what else she has to say:1. So… who are you?I am Legend lol jokes!!!2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?I think I’m cool because God has good taste hehe3. What is your favorite thing at the moment? My favorite thing is split between Baywest Prestige Movie Theaters and Bill Johnson.4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?I would love to change the way young women see themselves.5. Learnt how to make anything recently?I learnt how to make biltong thanks to SuzelleDIY6. Share your favorite tip/trick:Envelope system. If you really want something you can budget for it through discipline. I use envelopes so I dont overspend in a certain area and make available for another.7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us. What would it be?Life lesson is a tough one as there are so many. I would say right at this moment; Dont stop dreaming, Never stop believing.xxxL -
Made in South Africa
I often find myself avoiding political debates on social media. I am ill-equipt when it comes to discussing the state of our countrys affairs (and some of those “discussions” are pretty irrational – so thanks, but I’ll pass). To avoid looking like a straight up idiot I rather keep quiet and say a prayer. I pray because I am “made in South Africa” – so yes, I am concerned!
The recent uproar about our weak rugby team and the fact that we “don’t have what it takes” as a country to win the world cup messed me up though. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, South Africa had lost against Japan at a very important 2015 Rugby World Cup match and people were totally disgusted with our national sides performance. Look, let me not sugar coat things: I do not watch rugby, nor do I have an intense desire to. Whaaat? A couple of big looking guys, running around with a ball (and passing it to each other backwards, nogals), just does not make sense to me. And yes, we have bigger fish to fry than whether or not we win a sports game. But when it comes to big sporting events like, for example, the Rugby World Cup, then I am without a shadow of a doubt an extremely big Springbok fan! Whether they win or lose!
“Why?” You ask.
“You dislike rugby!” I hear you say.
“You can’t even name one player from the national rugby team!” You shout out in anguish. Just calm down, Margaret. Yes, these are all true facts. But even though I am not a rugby fan, I am definitely a fan of South Africa. And even though I can’t give you my opinion on the ‘Fees must fall’ debacle or the ‘Give back the land’ situation, it doesn’t change the fact that this is my country too!I love South Africa. I love it with its over-zealous car guards, power outages, crazy politics and embarrassing politicians. I even love it with its “we’re a rainbow nation but also, we’re not, but also, we are” mentality. I love South Africa because it’s mine. The same like with my children. I mean, my kids sometimes drive me cray cray and Hubstopher and I often look at each other and ask “can we send them back?” but they are mine and I am theirs and so, by default, my heart belongs to them. And it is with this sense of belonging that I love my country. I was born here, my roots are here, it is the place of my heritage and the home of my forefathers.
What is UP with South Africans now a days? We are a bunch of extremely passionate people who either love fiercely or hate even more fiercelier (is that a word?). We shake our heads and post updates about how disappointing South Africa is. We speak DEATH over our country, by moaning and complaining and being negative. We bring up the past and demand everyone to feel the way we do and if you don’t then you’re either delusional or privileged. Well, I’m neither (thanks), but I refuse to speak curses over the land that my children will grow up in.
And then we wonder why things aren’t changing! Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Your words create! We need to start watching what we speak over our country – whether it be dissecting the state of the government or bad mouthing Piet The Coach because our national rugby team lost to a “weaker” team. (Okay, I don’t know what the rugby coach’s name is. Don’t judge me. Let’s move on, shall we?)
Sure, I don’t understand the complexity of the team selections and the politics behind the players or the fact that the government didn’t *insert number of miscellaneous offences here*. At the end of the day, none of the above makes me any less of a South African. South Africa is STILL a part of me, and me of it. And I will always want the best for this country.
So, call it patriotic.
Faithful. Dedicated.
Stupid. Whatevs.I call it: Home.
I was made here. My label says Proudly South African. And not “Made in China”. En ek se dankie vir dit. -
Feature Friday: Venean Bosch
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.Venean Bosch
Today’s Feature Friday guest is friend and blogging newbie, Venean Bosch.I met Venean at church when we were both still very single and very looking. Hahaha. As single moms who love to write and over think and think about why we are over thinking and write about that, we totally hit it off from the get go. But, as these things go, life happened and we switched circles and somehow disconnected, until she started blogging this year. Woohoo! Bloggers unite!I’ve decided to feature V today because, as I’ve said, she is a new blogger, a really good writer and I believe that she has a lot to share. You can check out her blog over at In The MeantimeThis is what she had to say about it: “I enjoy writing so naturally a place to be who you are, in terms of yourself holistically, and not just one or two sided, entices me. It’s a place where I can share parts of my life which is always exciting for someone who loves to share! I blog about my meantime – inspired by the book by Iyanla Vazant: A time between all the big things – the wedding, the babies, the trip overseas… are we really living our lives to the fullest in-between, and what I am doing with my in-between, and being present in it.”Since the last time I saw her we have both grown (inwardly and, in my case, outwardly) and we are both now Mrs’s. ‘s.Like me, she and hubby both have kids from previous relationships, Nia (10) and Emilie (9). She says her favorite things comprise of:1. Her slippers2. Her familyBut I am guessing not in that order.Let’s see what else she has to say:1. So… who are you?Really? I am…. Is this a trick question? I am Vee? Does this suffice? This is tough… I am a little bit of a lot of things, and I don’t fully know yet either, I am still growing every day and hoping to change for the better. So whoever I am today I hope in tomorrows to come I am not the same. Although sometimes the same is good. Eeeck! Hope this makes sense.2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?LOL! I feel like I’m on Today with Trevor Noah… I think the coolest thing about me is… my ability to always always bounce back 🙂 #imcoollikethat3. What is your favorite thing at the moment?BLOGGING! And definitely reading blogs!4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?I first wanted to say the poverty in the world – I hate, like loathe, seeing and imagining people without the basics. But if I could change one thing today it would be for everyone to just be a little kinder to one another, because I think the world would be a better place. That really sounds so cliché – but honestly.5. Learnt how to make anything recently?Well just recently Emilie and I had to make a model robot. So I learnt how to make that and I re-learn how to make old dishes exciting (because that’s my other job – home manager). Oh… I made a rainbow cake for Emilie’s 9th birthday, it’s just a plain cake but with lots of color. It was so cool. I was a superwoman for the day – in her eyes anyway.6. Share your favorite tip/trick:My favorite and most used tip is (and don’t tell anyone now because they will think I’m bonkers), when life gets really crazy and you don’t remember your own name – because it happens (not to you? Oh no me neither! hahahaha). To stop, close your eyes and ask yourself where am I? (literally hey… in bed, in the car, in the bath), what do I hear (eg. cars, radio, laughing), what do I feel (the air, warmth, the seats, the floor, the water), what do I smell (you get the jist of it…) and then when you open your eyes ask yourself… but did you die? WAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA! But really – sometimes we lose perspective and get ourselves very worked up about things that don’t even matter. Don’t now do this while you need to be concentrating on something important like driving because ja…well be smart.7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us. What would it be?WOW! The responsibility that lies in that – when life has so much to share. I think the biggest lesson I have learnt and would want to teach my children would be: Forgive. Forgive and then forgive again – be it forgiving yourself, your family, your friends and just about everyone you meet. Don’t take everything too personally most times – it’s not even about you, and definitely not worth getting your heart in a mess over. You can only control you – your actions, your feelings and your thoughts and if you keep forgiving and then loving – you will be the best version of yourself, always. And that is best thing you can do for you and everyone around you.xxxL -
My spreadsheet wedding
It feels as if we’ve been married for a gazillion years when it actually happened just the other day! (Well, 2013 to be exact) What type of bride were you? Were you a Bridezilla? I wasn’t a Bridezilla per say… I was more like the secretary of Bridezilla. Man, I had spreadsheets for everything! I had spreadsheets of my spreadsheets! I wanted to plan the perfect ‘spreadsheet wedding’.I was glued to my huge wedding planner – an A4 diary filled with pics, notes, proof of payments and order sheets. Every single moment was perfectly planned – the music, the decor, the photos! My spreadsheet brain had it all down to the minute. But things looked a little bit different on the day of the wedding. For starters, my wonderful hairstyle was not as wonderful as my spreadsheet brain had envisioned. (Tip: If your hair has never curled a day in its life, don’t expect it to magically want to on the day of your wedding)
It took forever and a day to get to church, where my violinist/saxophonist was NOT serenading my guests, as was planned. My bridal party missed the que to walk down the aisle. My fake eyelashes kept sticking to my veil. The beautiful arch that we were to be married under almost toppled. Nothing went as planned.
And then I remembered something a wonderful friend of mine said: “Luchae, everything that happens on that day, will happen just as it was meant to happen!” And you know what, looking back now I can see how those little things added to the quirks of our (already quirky) matrimonial celebration. We watch the video and go “ohhhh look, remember when that happened!” and we admire and remember all the other things that made the day special and uniquely ours.
THAT is what made our wedding day perfect! Sure the planning helped some 🙂 But making memories is what made the day special. Making memories is what made the day perfect. I love how our plans may not always seem to succeed, but at the end of the day, whatever the outcome, it always works for the good of those who love God! When we submit our plans to Him, we allow Him to do His thang… which gives us the confidence of knowing that it will all work out – whether it goes according to our spreadsheets or not. -
Feature Friday: Alethea Ross
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.
Alethea Ross of Alove Creations
This week I was inspired by women who are doing it for themselves. Those who decided to follow their hearts and do the things that they are gifted to do! This takes guts and a lot of prayer, I’m sure 🙂One such person is Alethea Ross, who has recently started her own business called, Alove Creations. Alove Creations specializes in beautiful handmade infinity scarves with funky and elegant designs and lots of colours to choose from! (Check out her Facebook page) I heard that she will be launching a mens and kiddies range very soon too!If you know me, you’d know that my love of scarves almost supercedes that of Hilda in 7de Laan. So I totally inlike with Althea’s product and think that ordering your very own custom made scarf (that suites your own personal style and flair…and matches what’s in your cupboard!) totally tops buying something (and spending top dollar) at your generic clothing store to buy something that everyone else has. I will be reviewing one of her scarves really soon and will show you the amazing range she has developed over a short period of time.
Besides for following her heart 🙂 she also spends her time listening to music (she mentioned Whitney Houston, the diva!) and she says she loves spending time with her kiddies, dancing like crazy to Praise&Worship. Herself and hubby, Shilton, have been married for almost 2 years and they have an adorable little girl, Madison Taylor (3) and the warrior (as his mom calls him), Keane Thor who is 8 years old. When speaking about Shilton, Alethea gushes: “He is so supportive with all I choose to pursue or do. I still get butterflies when I think about us, and how far we have come. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful support system in him.” Awwww!
1. So… who are you?I am Alethea, many call me Ally, a daughter of the most High, blessed beyond compare. I am a mother to two amazing children, a wife to the best husband, I work hard, am an ambitious, fun loving and daring person.
2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?I am an honest, straight forward; I laugh loud, love deeply, cry hard and celebrate life like a rock star.
3. What is your favourite thing at the moment?Scarves!!! Lol, I love them, and think they just add that extra pizzazz to any outfit for any occasion – am I cray cray?
4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?The weather… I don’t like cold and grey weather; I want spring, the sweet smell of fresh flowers and the sun on my skin 🙂
5. Learnt how to make anything recently?A skirt 🙂 I love maxi skirts and so I decided that I would start making my own 🙂 whoop whoop
6. Share your favourite tip/trick:It’s okay to talk to yourself 🙂 I do it all the time
7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us. What would it be?I know this might sound cliché but I wish that I had listened to the many that shared this with me… life is a gift, you only get one, make it count. Take risks, breathe deeply and be brave. I have also learned and come to accept that being a Christian does not make you immune to the evil around us, if anything, we will probably encounter many hardships, faith is what gets you through them, and Grace is what comes in and changes it all around. Grace is not something you can ever earn; it is a second chance, a third chance and fourth. I am obsessed with grace 🙂

Technological me

I think I understand the difference between potatoe and potato when I go from using Hubstophers MacBook Pro to my 1990s Acer laptop. I feel like I’m playing ‘whose fingers are they anyways?’ It’s like: you scroll up to scroll down (huh?) and right click with 5 fingers versus “oh look there’s a button for it”.
You know, I used to be the kinda girl that I would call ‘old fashioned’. And that’s because I liked things that are old fashioned. I believed If it aint broke don’t fix it! With that said, I have had the same Blackberry for the past four years. This thing still works like the bomb dot com! Because of my cleverness and cunning ability to figure things out, I’ve found that the less apps I have on it, the better it works. So I don’t have waiting issues (remember the ghastly wait icon that everyone cursed to the pit of hell?) I don’t have “take my battery out of my phone quickly” problems. But I’m starting to wonder: is it enough?
I feel a new era dawning.
An era where I want to take photos with my cellphone and not have to find a photo app online that would make my pics look remotely okay. An era where I’d know what people are speaking about when they want to ‘load a filter’ before they ‘post to Insta’. An era where I swipe on my screen when I want to do something on my phone, as opposed to pressing a button. (It looks so cool to swipe. I waaannaaaa swiiipe tooooo) An era where I can also dubsmash and play angry birds and finally download Twitter without it making my cellphone run slower than a Bold and the Beautiful story line.
I’ve decided to give this big screen phone thing a try. I mean, it has some lady who can speak back to you and everything, so that’s a plus. And also, it looks really cool and according to my super smart husband it can do lots of things too. (List of things it can do is yet to be revealed, but I’ll take his word for it based on the fact that I am married to him).
Needless to say, since I am controlled by a spreadsheet brain and all, I will need to do some deeeeep soul searching before I make a purchase. Deeeeep. Like deeeep deeep. Like “Rolling in the deeep” by Adele, deeeep.
I’ll send an update once I find a phone worthy of my lots of moola. Until then, I’ll appreciate my BIS a little bit longer.

Feature Friday: Mvokazi Mjayezi-Ncede
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.
Mvokazi Mjayezi-Ncede of J-Star BloMag
Mvokazi Mjayezi, or Mvo as she prefers, is one of those kinds of women who are made out of passion, grit and determination! This lady knows who she is and what she’s meant to be doing right now and nothing can sway her! It is something that I deeply admire and is one of the main reasons why I am featuring her today, after a week of feeling like “there’s got to be more to life!”I think that so many of us need to be encouraged and inspired to take a step of faith into our God-given destinys. With nothing but a dream in her heart and a vision set out by God, Mvo left her office job more than a year ago to pursue her dream of becoming a magazine owner. She explains: “I just went for it, trusting God to provide as I go, and He has!”In an interview that I did with her for Gateway News she shared the following about J-Star Magazine: “The vision God gave me for J-Star is that it is a friendship ministry in blog magazine style. Everything about it is personal — a testimony of what my contributors and I have been through, are going through and will go through.” She explained. The blomag is focused on encouraging its readers to reach for the greatness that God has destined for them. “He then gave me the name J-Star, which means Jesus Star. I ran with it after that and here I am today!”Mvo is not only a dream chaser but also a mom to the adorable 10 month old Khumisani and the dashing 6 year old Kamvalonke. Mvo and hubby, Sinethemba, have been married for 5 grace filled years and together are pursuing the promises of God and not settling for anything less!Let’s see what she has to say:1. So… who are you?I’m a woman of God, a wife, a mom, daughter, sibling and friend. I love being a wife to my husband, and i love being a mom to my kids – I was born for this! I feel so blessed in that I’m right where I’m supposed to be, in every sense.I’m a visionary who likes to push boundaries, and most importantly, I like to translate my dreams into reality. These days I’m all about going after all that God has for me, I want it all and I want it now!2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?
Thanks..I happen to think that you’re pretty cool too. I would say that I’m cool because I kicked fear to the curb and out of my life for good. I came to a point in life where I just decided to put on a go-getter attitude. I realised that God has got plans for my life and I really wanted to walk in my destiny, so I put my trust in God and sprinted forward.3. What is your favorite thing at the moment?
Other than my family, I’m obsessed with my hair at the moment. You see I have this big bush of an afro; and after years of trying out multitudes of hairstyles, I stumbled upon a hair blog for natural ethnic hair. So now I’m on a mission to get healthy long, natural hair. I have a long way to go, but I’m pretty happy with its current state.4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?
Ooh that’s easy. I’d stop being lazy when it comes to exercise and just do it, so I can fit into my clothes again! I love what I do, and I can go without sleep for days doing it, but when it comes to my health, I haven’t gotten there yet…lol any tips for me?5. Learnt how to make anything recently?
Lol, I like to empower myself so I’m becoming a bit more hands on with the designing of my magazine. What else?…I’d love to learn to sew. I’ve always loved fashion and have designed tons of amateur sketches that nobody would know what do do with lol, but that’s my next dream that I want to turn into a reality.6. Share your favorite tip/trick:
Lol, like I said i’ obsessed about my hair. So my favorite tip, is putting a generous amount of applecider vineger in my shampoo, mixed with water..it does wonders to cleanse the scalp!7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us.
Mhmm, this is a tough one…OK..here goes..don’t live your life according to people’s advice or opinions. Live it as God has called you to live it. People may not understand what God has called you to do, and they always have advice of what or how you should do things..only listen to the instructions of the Holy Spirit, and do things exactly the way He tells you to do them.Following your destiny does not mean that everything will go smoothly, with no challenges in your way. Sometimes the challenges are little pebbles of no consequence, and sometimes they are mountains that can take your breath away. You are already equipped with the tools and the weapons that you need to overcome any, and every situation. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, and you will always overcome.xxxL -
Feature Friday: Mandy Frank – Mrs PE 2012
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.
Mandy Frank – Mrs Port Elizabeth 2012
My FF guest this week is someone who always inspires me with her compassion and willingness to help others. I met Mandy Frank a few years ago – I’m not sure how – and started following her campaign to be the next Mrs Port Elizabeth in 2012.For those who don’t know, Port Elizabeth is our hometown and as Mrs PE, you become an ambassador for the city and those within the city who are in need. What I immediately noticed about Mandy is that she was involved with charity projects BEFORE all the beauty pageant stuff happened. She was the real deal and rightly so deserved to win the title in 2012. The pic above shows off the love between herself and hubby, Sheldon, on the night of the Mrs PE event. They’ve been married for 7 years and have 1 amazingly cute and Jesus-lovin’ little boy, Matteo who in his 7 years of age is not ashamed to give and receive love and tell others how much Jesus loves them. I love her Facebook posts about her life with her guys (some are kinda hilarious!) and the revelation she receives every day. I think she’s pretty cool 🙂Let’s see what she has to say:1. So… who are you?
Thank you sooooo much for thinking of me. Who am I? I am just Mandy. The Middle of 3 children (all girls) of 2 loving parents. A daughter of the King. A blessed wife and doting mom. A ‘what you see is what you get’ kinda girl. I am very approachable and appreciate the simple things in life.2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?
Mmmmm – maybe I’m cool in like a nerdy kind of way? Haha – I’m a really good friend. I know this, because my friends tell me that all the time. Then again, I am surrounded by really cool people!! I don’t get upset easily, and the older I get (pushing 30 – #whoop) – the calmer I seem to be. I am liking me more and more actually. Actually, I love me more and more.3. What is your favorite thing at the moment?
Biscuits! ! Biscuits, and Pajamas.4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?
Anything? Like anything? Peace among families.5. Learnt how to make anything recently?
What was it? Coconut Ice. Matteo and I had lots of fun making different colours.6. Share your favorite tip/trick:
every woman should learn how to swirl ….7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us.
What would it be? You can be anything you want to be. Yes! Anything like ANYTHING. And you’re never too young to start sharing God’s love.

Feature Friday: Yours truly
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.
Me
In lieu of my week being super crazy and the fact that it’s my blog and I can feature if I want to, I’ve decided to share a little bit about myself in this weeks FF 🙂
I’m the wife of a really talented musician and together we have 3 kids: his, mine and ours!
A little bit more about me…
Well, to start at the beginning: growing up, I was only ever interested in reading story books and writing fairy tales and short stories. In fact, I wanted to be the next Enid Blyton. That soon evolved into song and script writing (and me wanting to be the next Mariah Carey). And then one day, I discovered that Facebook has a “Notes” section… and voila! a blogger was born!Besides for this amazing and oh so witty blog (self proclaimed), I also write for an online Christian newspaper called Gateway News, where I focus predominately on music, reviews and other such things. I really love the paper and it’s vision! I am also a contributor for J-Star BloMag, which is a really funky online blog magazine.
I love making stuff but I’m one of those kindsa people who are very good at thinking up amazing things to craft but the end result never quite looks the way it did in my head. I am a member of my church’s worship team, where I help with directing the choir and I totally love singing and even more so for God. I always joke around and say that spreadsheets are my thing, because I thrive on planning and being organised, with color coded lists and charts. I’m quite a nut job.
About 2 years ago, I married the love of my life, who also happens to be the opposite of organised and is pretty much always in “anything goes!” mode. Lets just say, if we lived in Microsoft Land and I was Excel, then he would be Paint.
We each have a son – his is 9 years old and mine will be 14 in November (whaaat?) Together, we have an adorable little girl who will be 1 in October.
So technically, I am a mom of 3! Yep, my mind gets blown by that fact every single day.1. So… who are you?
I am a compulsive/obsessive organiser who also happens to be creative and really lazy at times. Its a bit of both worlds really.
2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool 🙂 Why do you think you’re cool?
So I just called myself “pretty cool” 🙂 I think I’m a pretty decent person. I’m a little bit TOOOO compassionate at times… like, when I cry for TV ads or when I feel bad while eating a boiled egg because I know that I’m actually eating a foetus.3. What is your favorite thing at the moment?
Essence nail polish (Clicks brand). Love love love!4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?
I would rewind to where my son was 5 years old and just enjoy those moments with him. He grew up so fast!5. Learnt how to make anything recently? What was it?
Hmmm… I learnt how to make this amazing yogurt lemon meringue tart the other day! I am generally a “salty” kinda girl, when it comes to the “cakes or pies” table. But I am a big lemon meringue fan. I mean, I would bathe in the stuff, if I was given the opportunity.6. Share your favorite tip/trick:
Tip of the week: When washing your hair, always make sure that your last few rinses are with cold water. I’ve found that it somehow gives your hair extra shine. True story!7. Imagine we’re your kids 🙂 now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us. What would it be?
It’s okay to be exactly who God has made you to be! You don’t have to be anyone else, look like anyone else or do what everyone else is doing!
