4D Scan: There’s a ballerina in my tummy! {1st Year Birthday Celebrations}
Our curly girly turns 1 on the 31st October, and we’re spinning around in circles, like “huh?! did that just happen?!” For the next few days, sometimes in my blog, but mostly in my head, I will be reminiscing on my glorious pregnant days and all the prep that went into making sure the transition from womb to world was an amazing one.
Thinking back to when I found out I was pregnant and how much I enjoyed my pregnancy made me so nostalgic for that feeling of expectancy and excitement! One thing I knew I wanted to do (even before I fell pregnant) is a 4D “photo shoot” (aka ultrasound).
At 4 months preggers, my Curly refused to give the ultrasound tech a good flash, so that we could see if she is a boy or a girl. My heart was hoping for a girl but I was okay with a boy too. Although, between you and me, I knew she would be a girl because God showed me a picture of a ballerina one morning while I was praying over her (not knowing the gender yet).A beautiful ballerina princess! I was convinced, but kept it to myself.
I found it quite amusing that God had chosen to show me a picture of a dancer. If you know anything about us, you’d know that we are a musical family. We love music – we sing, play instruments etc. But I would not exactly call us dancers. In fact, I am probably the opposite of a dancer. I don’t do “dance” well. So how amazing that God completed this musical circle by adding a dancer to the mix!
Anyways, so ultrasounds were like precious commodities while I was pregnant. I planned my weeks around them! I loved seeing my baby and hearing it’s heartbeat. Dude, I even dreamt about buying an ultrasound machine and keeping it my living room! Yep – all kindsa crazy, this one đ
Curly was quite feisty in womb – she just could not lie still! But with all the movement going on, she still refused to open her legs. My wonderful gynecologist happened to be the same doctor that “caught” my first born many moons ago. So I had the privilege of taking my boy to meet him and sit in the room while we did an ultrasound. He was a bit more impressed with the equipment than the tiny picture of his sister on the screen though. But none the less, it was a moment for me! (Que the emotional tears)
We booked the 4D ultrasound at a place that offered what they call ‘gender ultrasounds’ – which means that they would do the 4D and look specifically to see what the gender of baby is. And if baby is too shy to show then you can go back another time. Sounded legit to me!
I did my part in making sure Curly was active by (gasp!) having a chocolate a half an hour before the ultrasound. I also made sure my bladder was full – but I cant now remember if it was needed or not. But I do remember that I needed to pee quite badly. (Heck, who am I kidding, I needed to pee quite badly all the time when I was pregnant.)
The moment arrived… I lay there, excitedly searching the screen, trying to figure out if I am looking at an elbow or a leg… and then I saw her face! (Que: Bruno Mars) Her beautiful little face, perfectly formed! I could feel tears coming! But I was like, “No, Luchae, keep it together!” And instead, I squealed in delight and said “Awww she looks like MEEEE!” heehehee đ
She was there… beautiful and dancing! Arms up, lips pouting, and yep, with little girly parts đ our baby was definitely the ballerina princess that God had showed me weeks before! We were over the moon!
We were given about 6 different shots of her 4D scan – all perfect, all beautiful!
My favorite is this one, that shows off her pout, with arms up in the sky, pirouetting for mommy and daddy.
This was one of the most special things that I did during my pregnancy. It made everything just so REAL.
We were going to have a real life baby! A real one!
Woah! My mind was officially blown!Check out how detailed the 4D scan was compared to real life.
Proof that we did actually get the baby as was advertised on the screen đ -
How to give your kids a gift that isn’t theirs
We love our children, as is expected. We want to give them the best that we can and never want them to experience lack or limitation. But I’m often faced with the “it’s not all about you!” challenge, when I find them taking things for granted, and find myself bringing out my inner beast parent, to show them that the world certainly does not revolve around them and their latest game or fad.
It is with this in mind that we diligently and joyfully partake in the Santa Shoebox initiative each year. It is a great initiative where you sign up, choose a child (or children) in your area, who live in poverty stricken homes or at institutions where they may not have as much as we do. You then put together a Christmas box of sorts, that will contain a variety of essentials. The box is prettily decorated for reuse (which is a big deal for these kids already) and you are always welcome to add more than what the list stipulates – special items that you feel would mean a lot to your sponsored child.
We Santa Shoebox every single year. I have made it a habit for us to choose 1 boy who is close in age to our boys and for the past few years, we have been quite fortunate to be able to choose the same boy every single year. The boys know his name already and they’ve written him letters before, so I am sure he might feel as if he knows them too. Last year, with the loom bands craze going on, the boys added tons of loom bands and loom makers for him to use. The year before that we added some books that they loved.Every year we try to make the box special, because he is special and he should feel loved and not as if we threw things in a box because we feel sorry for him. I have found that since the boys are able to relate to our pledge (because he is a boy too and close in age), it has made the packing and deciding of what goes in the box so much more special and important to them.
I’ve also decided to sponsor a little girl, who is close in age to our Curly. I would love to apply the same concept to this little girls box and hopefully would have the honor of being her sponsor until Curly is able to understand it all.
Not only is it our responsibility to look after orphans and those who are unable to fend and provide for themselves (that’s what the Bible says yo), but it is a huge privilege to be able to speak into the lives of children – even if it’s through a simple Christmas gift box.I appeal to you: Please check out the Santa Shoebox website and consider pledging a child. The closing date is looming and there are hundreds of children who are still not sponsored and your box would mean the world to them. If you are unable to physically pack a box and get it to the drop off centers in time, there are easy peasy virtual boxes available for you to purchase. You are blessed to be a blessing!

How to be pregnant like a boss… {1st Year Birthday Celebrations}
So, if you recall my post last week, as a build up to her first birthday, I am taking the time to remember the little things that made being pregnant with my Curlysue so sweet and precious to me.I loved being pregnant with her! There is just that something about knowing that there is life inside your belly. It gives you this sense of wonderment and excitement: Who will baby look like? What will her cry sound like? Will she love peanut butter the way her daddy does? Will she have my moms green eyes? Will she share our love of music? The prospect of a brand new life, with new possibilities, growing inside of YOU, makes you gawk at the beauty of God and the perfect way his grand design falls into place.
I did have the swollen feet syndrome and my hip joints ached on the regular, because of the weight. But other than that, it was a lovely pregnancy. I love that when you’re pregnant you can wear just about any kind of maternity clothes, because  no one is looking at you thinking “does she know that top makes her stomach look big?” I also love that I got to take my slippers to work with me, for those moments when my shoes cut off my blood circulation. See exhibit A:
I had vowed to make this experience the best that I could, knowing that it would probably be my last!
Yep, this factory is closed for business, Mister! Here’s a bunch of things I did that really made my pregnancy special:Â
1. Took a lot of selfies and pics of my ever growing belly. Bathroom selfies were a must. They say if you’re pregnant with a girl, then you will see her beauty on your face – well I don’t know how true that is but I felt SO beautiful when I was pregnant with my girl. My hair was longer and thicker, my skin was clear and I just felt like something special. I was host to precious cargo! It felt amazing.
2. I began to journal about all the little things that I was feeling or thinking (Or doing!) and added photos and special dates and appointments to the scrap book. I wanted my baby to know that she was loved before we even met her! I wrote more about it here.
3. I did a full on preggy photoshoot. Check out some of the pics here.
4. I continued to do the things I loved doing! At 8 months pregnant, I was on stage at our church’s annual Arise Womens Conference. I sang a song called “You know me” by the Bethel Music collective and the lyric fits so perfectly with what I was experiencing. God knew me before I was in my moms womb and He knew my Curly too! It was a wow moment for me.
5. I surrounded myself with girly things all the time! Because we have 2 sons, I knew I had to wrap my brain around PINK. Not that it was very hard for me đ Im a pink girl at heart. I produced a little princess skit for the womens conference, that was totally inspired by the fact that we are our Daddy’s Girls… Princesses of the King.
6. I watched Frozen. Yep. I did. “Do you wana build a snooowmaaaaaaaan?”
I figured that girls are watching it and I’m about to pop one out, so I need to get with the programme.7. For my birthday, I hosted a Pink Picnic In the Park – just to get my pink on and also because it was my birthday and I wanted to do something that featured my baby on board.
8. I helped to plan baby showers for my best friend and my baby sister (and yes, all 3 of us gave birth in the same month!) Celebrating with them made me so much more excited about mine!
9. I attended expos and seminars and did everything and took every photo and filled in every competition and listened to every speaker! I just wanted to experience it all!
But more than all of that, I constantly reminded myself to take it all in. Every moment, every ache, every doctor’s appointment. Just like your wedding day, it all passes so quickly, and soon it’s just a sweet memory!
Ahhhhh if I could do it all over again…

Family Photos/1st Birthday Cake Smash:Sneak Peak
Yesterday my family and I trekked to the other side of Port Elizabeth for our annual(ish) family photo shoot. This would be our first with Miss Curlysue and would also double as her 1st birthday cake-smash shoot.
Thanks to the amazing photo package photographer, Michelle Janse van Rensburg, of Cutepix/Full Circle Photography, has put together, we were able to take pics of our princess, a couple of portraits and get some much needed family photos in. Oh and the cake was included in the price too. Score!
Michelle had asked us to meet her at a tiny cafe on a long road, where her hubby, Marius, acted as a chaperone transporting us from one destination to another. It seems our “karretjie” just did not have what it takes to navigate through wood lands. After driving for a couple of minutes, we stopped smack dab in the middle of a forest where Michelle was waiting (with camera en tow) – the forest was to be our stage! After applying lots of mosquito repellent on to little arms and legs we were ready for our shoot!
The first couple of frames were of us with “ours” – Chris with Seth and myself with Kyle.
We took some with our Little Miss and a bunch of pics as a family.
And that was our moment of fame for the day. The rest was all about Curly! The next scene had Curly sitting in front of a kissing booth, with a very chic looking hat perched on her head. Michelle had hand-crafted every single prop! The setting was “carnival” themed and very cheery and colourful. The forrest makes for the perfect backdrop!
Cake smash time didn’t go according to what I had envisioned. Sigh! I feel like a struggling artist! My child does not do cake. She did not like the sweet taste or the feeling of icing between her fingers! But I also think that it was alot of stimulation all at the same time and she was just tired of it all.
All in all the shoot took about an hour long (which I was totally okay with! happy baby, happy mommy!) and it’s the next day and I have a couple of photos to ooh and ahhh at already! How on the ball are they? đ
Loving it already. Cant wait to see more! Stay tuned!

Feature Friday: Theresia Muller
On Feature Friday I feature people, products or just random things that I think are pretty cool. My aim is to leave you a little bit more enlightened and inspired! And hey, I’m open to new things, so please hollar at me, if you have any pretty cool FF suggestions.Theresia Muller of Bonamia Restuarant
Todayâs FF, Theresia Muller, has a story that is one of those kindsa stories that makes you feel like you can conquer the world! This 29 year old mommy of 1 is married to hubby, Justin, and together they own Bonamia â a restaurant that she happened to waitress at a few years ago!
So yes, Tess went from waitress, to owner. How cool is that?!
After marrying the love of her life, 3 years ago, in a shotgun wedding â just kidding, in a beautiful purple butterfly themed wedding â the Mullers moved to East London were they faced what Tess calls ‘a season in the wildernessâ. âGod taught us a lot in our wilderness and we soon got to a point where we both felt called for more!â She shared with me.Becoming a business owner was always something Tess had trusted God for, but, as with all dreams that He plants in our hearts, it seemed really, really big! A year later, after finding out that her previous boss was planning to sell Bonamia, she mentioned to Justin that the place was available for purchase. He spontaneously decided that they should attempt to buy it. âWe were the least qualified in all spheres of the process but we were pursuing purpose and covered in favour!â
The Mullers won the bid to buy the restaurant and somehow finances came in and they were able to put money down for it. They moved back to Port Elizabeth to pursue their new vocation as restaurateurs and their business has been steadily growing ever since. âIt has been growing so much that we were crazy enough to purchase our second one this year and it will probably not be the last!â
There are currently 2 Bonamia branches in Port Elizabeth – The initial restaurant in Walker Drive and the newest edition in Walmer. Both feature a homely but elegant setting with an ABCDlicious menu (that is ever evolving!) and really friendly staff that are willing to accommodate you and your functions.Being a restaurateur is not all fun and games and the Mullersâ are always hard at work, striving to give their customersâ the best dining experience that they can. So couple that with the added energy of 1 year old Joshua (who has a thing for shaking his booty!), and you will understand why Tess lists âsleepâ as one of her hobbies! A worshiper at heart, Tess also squeezes in a movie or 2 where she can and loves to socialize on her days off.
She shares that being a good steward when she was âjust a waitressâ played a big role in the doors that were opened for her and Justin when they decided to purchase the restaurant. âWhen I was a waitress I treated Bonamia as it was my own (good stewarding). I loved it. I had been in the industry before but fell in love with the place because of all the regular faces I had gotten to know.â She explained.
I love Theresia’s testimony! It is proof that when you dream big with God, then He will make your dreams a reality!
Let’s see what else she has to say:1. So… who are you?I am Legend lol jokes!!!2. You’re a feature today, because I think you’re pretty cool đ Why do you think you’re cool?I think I’m cool because God has good taste hehe3. What is your favorite thing at the moment? My favorite thing is split between Baywest Prestige Movie Theaters and Bill Johnson.4. If you could change one thing today, what would it be?I would love to change the way young women see themselves.5. Learnt how to make anything recently?I learnt how to make biltong thanks to SuzelleDIY6. Share your favorite tip/trick:Envelope system. If you really want something you can budget for it through discipline. I use envelopes so I dont overspend in a certain area and make available for another.7. Imagine we’re your kids đ now imagine you had to share a life lesson with us. What would it be?Life lesson is a tough one as there are so many. I would say right at this moment; Dont stop dreaming, Never stop believing.xxxL -
And then I found out I was pregnant
I fell pregnant with Karis like, two months into our marriage. It was a beautiful, scary surprise… one we were not prepared for! Yep, it was all totally unplanned, but such an exciting thought. Plus, more children to make me tea… I was winning already. And now, as we prepare to celebrate her birthday, I can’t help but remember the day that I found out I was pregnant. It’s one of my favorite memories!
Planning to plan
We knew we wanted to have babies – since Hubstopher has one and I have one. Having a kid of our own just made sense. But my spreadsheet brain planned (hahaha because I think that I can plan these things) that I would only fall pregnant once we were married for a year or so. We had just moved into our new place and I was still busy unpacking and preparing the boys rooms and all of that. I had wanted to get some new curtains and carpets and had so many diy decor stuff I wanted to try out. I wanted to set up our kitchen so that I could be a culinary expert for my family, cooking them gourmet Jamie Oliver stuff. (All gone in the wind. Try doing that when you’re puking your lungs out because you cant stand the smell of lettuce).
So, taking my spreadsheet brain into consideration, I would like to think that I was always very diligent with those tiny, annoying contraceptive pills (which took some getting use to). I mean, im my mind, I could just like, you know, decide to not fall pregnant and that would be it. (Because it worked so well the first time around, right? Well done, Luchae.) Anyways, I had started taking the pills about a month before the wedding, but they gave me leg cramps and a bunch of other nasty side effects. The nurse at the mediclinic advised me to stop taking them immediately, because the cramps were a symptom of blood clotting! She told me to wait for a month and then she would put me on something else. Easy peasy. I mean, how much trouble could we get ourselves into, in a span of 4 weeks? I remember hanging up the washing a few days after that, and I put my hand on my belly and said “God, if you want me to be pregnant, then bugger my plans… I’ll be okay with that! Have Your way.”I just knew
Soon after that I started feeling queasy and drained. (Who lied and said that you only feel tired when you’re a few months pregnant?! Shoot that busy.) Look, if you’ve been pregnant before, and you know what morning sickness nausea feels like, then you KNOW the difference between “oh I just ate something and now I feel queasy” vs “Oh my hat! My stomach is doing cartwheels, while breakdancing, on it’s head. I’m pregnant!” I mean, I had to reprimand myself for being too dramatic, but I just KNEW that I am ‘with child’. The fact that I could be pregnant seemed far fetched and I was elated and excited but also so concerned about what people would think. I mean, we’ve only been married for a couple of seconds. What is WRONG with us?!
Anyways, keep in mind that all of these thoughts occured before I even did a test. Bwahaha. So I did a couple of home pregnancy tests, and it came out negative. (Yeah, I said “a couple”)Â The last one I did (at work nogals) had a faint second line. So I promptly sent my bestie a message saying “what does this mean?” (She had found out she was pregnant two weeks earlier and had sent me the same message.)The best moment
The next day, my family doctor did a pee stick test as well and said “sorry, its a negative”. But he sent us for a blood test anyways, which we did the following day, en route to a wedding. Since we had to sing at the wedding, the blood place person (sorry, what are they called now again), was a friend of a friend, so she promised to send me a text once she had the results. So picture us, sitting at a wedding ceremony, getting ready to go up to sing, and I get this sms:“Congratulations, you’re going to be a mom again!”Â
Woohoo!!! Of corse my darling husband wanted to burst out in tears! The wedding ceremony was underway, so we couldn’t even scream or shout or hug each other and then 10 minutes later, we were called to the stage to sing… talk about an Oprah moment! It was very dramatic for us.
Post wedding, we called our families immediately. Whaaat? I know that you’re suppose to wait until you’re atleast three months along, but we were just so excited! The boys were told together. They were excited. And apprehensive. Both had already received a newly acquired sibling (from their other parents), so they reckoned they were experts already. And then lo and behold my doctor calls, saying he’s been trying to get hold of me since Friday. It turns out the pee stick test turned positive after we had left the surgery! Haha. Talk about a movie ending.
And our Karicurls is the star! Man it has been such a journey ever since! Our little darling has brought so much joy and I wouldn’t trade any part of it for anything! Having this baby just restored so much in our lives. God’s plan is the best plan.
Thank you for journeying with me today. Karis celebrates another birthday tomorrow – she is a tad bit more excited than I am.

Is there a doctor in the house?

Photo: Huffington Post I’ve been struggling with a re-occuring pain in my chest for the past few months now.
Its in a weird place – right beneath my breast on the right hand side. It seems to be a deep pain. If that makes sense?
My GP told me that it might be a strained muscle. I immediately thought, duh, only I could sprain a muscle in my chest.
I mean, in my CHEST… a muscle. Sprained. Only me.Anyways, the pain comes and goes, which is weird if it’s a sprained muscle (Ya, I am pretending to know medical things). So I decided to go for a second opinion and this time ended up with a female doctor. She is lovely… very upbeat and fresh. I like her.
She diagnosed me with inflammation in my diaphragm… which explains a lot! She gave me a lekker fat injection and prescribed some crazy meds (trepiline – the anti depressant – being one of them). I am meant to go back next week to see if I need to go for a scan.
As I left her office I said “Thank you! I feel much better already!”
She replied: “Well… that’s what I’m here for.”
Isn’t it wonderful that God gives certain people the ability and passion to help Him help others? It seems that I’ve been faced with a lot of “doctor talk” the past few weeks.
I’ve been on a faith walk lately, with a few family members and friends, who are dealing with various health problems. One of them is really close to home – my 17 year old baby brother. And I’ve had to repeat the same scriptures over and over as a reminder of God’s promises.
Scriptures that remind them that He is more than enough… everything we need and then some.
He says that He never fails. He wins all the time. And if we trust in Him then we win too.
True words but also a nice and fluffy blanket to offer to others. But what about when we have to believe that for our own lives?
Even though it’s not a serious, life threatening illness, I found it particularly amusing that I am now the one in the doctor surgery, getting news that doesn’t even make sense to me. I am now the one that has to trust God for healing. And I am now the one who has to pray for wisdom for my doctor – that she makes wise, knowing, decisions that would aide me and not harm me.I sometimes pray so fervently for those who are dear to me, to be healed and their bodies restored, that I just cant believe that anything other than that will happen. But we have to make room for God to do his thing. We want to wake up to an instant miracle. But sometimes He wants to take His time with us – allow us to cling to Him – and build us up in the process, as we trust in Him.
It’s easy to say “God is good!” when something wonderful happens.
But to say “God is good!” when life does not make sense, is a true test of faith.
So that’s where I’m at right now.Trusting.
Hoping.
Praying.xxxL

I’ve always liked Justin Bieber, but now…

Photo: Complex I spotted this really interesting article about Justin Bieber in Gateway News last week.Basically, the Biebs is saying that he is putting his bad-boy antics behind him and instead will be working on his relationship with God.I’ve always liked Justin Bieber, because I love music and homeboy can sang!He is really talented. But I’ve never appreciated the silly decisions he made (wrt drugs and partying) because I realize that he has alot of influence on a large portion of the tweenagers of the world. So I found it refreshing and so awsome to hear him openly admit to NEEDING to have God in his life.He did it without caring that it would affect record sales or concert sales. That’s legit. It’s legit AND sad that there are people out there who would prefer that He rather posts pics on Instagram of himself getting drunk on weekends, with various young women en tow. I mean, that makes sense, right? But noooo, not this Jesus stuff! Put it away! We don’t want to see!Gasp! How dare this boy say that He has a relationship with God! Hoowww darrrre heeeee! You know, I find it incredibly shocking that people are lauded as brave when they decide that they are changing their physical appearance from a man to a woman (for example). I mean, it’s acceptable to openly proclaim to LIVE FOR a particular soccer team – wear their shirts, sing their praises on Facebook, fight and defend in open debates etc.But I think that being brave means a whole lot more than physical gratification.Being brave means that that you are willing to lay down your life for what you believe to be the truth. Being brave means that you are willing to go against the grain to do the right thing, even if it means that you might lose record sales or respect or popularity. If you believe the word of God to be the truth, and you are not okay with just believing that during Easter or when someone in your family is ill, and you decide to LIVE FOR that.Well, I think that THAT is brave.Anyone can do what everyone else is doing. But it takes some guts to do what others don’t want to do.(and you can quote me on that)So I say: Good on ya, Justin Bieber! Good on ya! It was a very brave decision to make and I totally pray that he goes from strength to strength. Here is a snippet from the article, which was based on an interview with Joe La PUma for the Oct/Nov 2015 issue of Complex.âI forgot what I was about, what my mom raised me to be,â Bieber confessed to COMPLEX. âI veered off, and I got tainted. I came into the music industry at 13. I was trying to trust people and theyâd break my heart at 15,â he says.Bieber became disillusioned with people who took advantage of him. In response, he started to âdo his own thing.ââI got into a little bit of trouble,â he admits, âânothing that other 20-year-olds donât get intoâjust rebelling a little bit. Now, being 21, Iâm coming into my own and around some pretty cool people who are not afraid to tell me whatâs real.âHe says his behavior pushed the limits. âI was doing anything. I was doing so many things that I shouldnât even be on the planet still. I think that it (my survival) was by the grace of God.âFollowing his epic break-up with Selena Gomez, his heart began to soften toward God. âLove is a choice. Love is not a feeling. People have made it seem in movies that itâs this fairy tale. Thatâs not what love is.âYouâre not gonna want to love your girl sometimes but youâre gonna choose to love her,â he continued. âThatâs something in life that I had to figure out. I canât lean on people. I got to lean on God. I gotta trust in Him through all my situations. Then, hopefully, my other relationships will flourish around me.âAfter his turbulent adolescence, he also began to reflect on the limits of science and his place in the universe. âFor a âbig bangâ to create all this is more wild to think about than thinking about there being a God,â he told COMPLEX.âImagine putting a bunch of gold into a box, shaking up the box, and out comes a Rolex. Itâs so preposterous once people start saying it. At this point, my faith has gotten me to where I am. My faith has brought me to a whole other level. I love talking about my faith.âBieber bemoans some of the representations of Christianity he sees on late-night TV and says he wants to focus less on religion and more on his personal relationship with God.âIâm not religious. I, personally, love Jesus and that was my salvation. I want to share what Iâm going through and what Iâm feeling and I think it shouldnât be ostracized.ââI actually feel better and more free now that I know what I can do and what I canât do. Iâm gonna use my voice for a reason. I think that people, as soon as they start hearing me saying Iâm a Christian, theyâre like, âWhoa Justin, back up, take a step back.âBieber says he wants to pursue Christlikeness with increased focus. âI do not want to shove this down anyoneâs throat. I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be JesusâI could neverâI donât want that to come across weird. He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind. If you believe it, he died for our sins.ââItâs like with God: The whole thing with religion is you present yourself holy and bring your offerings so that God can bless you, when the whole point of the relationship [should be], âNo, Iâm gonna do this because he loves me. Iâm gonna do this because heâs amazing and not because [I] have to, [but] because [I] want to.â Thatâs the whole thing with religion thatâs been throwing off the people. Itâs not a âhave to.â It should be just like a personal relationship. Like, âHey, I love you because you first loved me.ââIf we can understand that weâre all imperfect, letâs come to God and come for his help. Youâre not weak by doing that. I think thatâs a common misperception of Christians, that youâre being weak because you canât handle it. None of us can handle this world, dude! Itâs eating us alive.âBut, man, I donât wanna have to do it on my own. I know for sure my parents canât give me all that I need. I know that my friends canât give me all that I need. Thereâs something missing. I think that going to church is fellowship, itâs relationship, itâs what weâre here on the earth to do, to have this connection that you feel thereâs no insecurities. I think thatâs where we need to be.
What are your thoughts on Biebers new found relationship with God?

Music Monday: Martin Smith – Back To The Start {GIVEAWAY!}

Photo: Jesus Freak Hideout I really enjoyed reviewing Martin Smiths latest album for Gateway News last week.
Martin Smith has written for giants such as Jesus Culture and the Passion Conference collective. He is the real deal!
Gateway News will be giving away his latest offering as well as a collection of other albums. Such a legit giveaway.Re-emerging as a solo singer, this album shows another side to Smithâs worship, with heartfelt anthems and dancey praise songs that really gets you going. The album poignantly opens with âBack to the startâ â a moving ballad that just messed me up when he sang âIâm coming home/Back to the start/Where you found me/I give you my heart again.â I love that it speaks about our first love and that it helps us to reach a place where we can say, âokay God, itâs me and you again.â
The second track on the album, âEmmanuelâ, was the first radio single from this new collection and was co-written with Matt Redman and Nick Herbert. The song is based on the scripture in Joshua 3:10 which says âThe living God is among you.â It is a beautiful worship anthem that is lyrically striking with a sound that has been described as âmodern worship.â This sound is what Smith has become known for if you can remember other more mod sounding worship tributes that he has penned such as âSong of Solomonâ (which also happens to feature on this album). You will also find another oldie, âFire never sleepsâ, on this album. It is a groovy mid-tempo track that speaks about the fire of God, inviting it to âBurn O my soul/Set me on fire!â
Smith and Redman do a sort of a mod-worship revamp to the old hymn, âGreat is Thy faithfulness.â The song, which has the same message and foundation as the classic, has a warm melody with rich lyrics. One of my favorite lines says âWhen shadows fall/You never change/From age to age/You never change.â I love singing about the faithfulness of our unchanging God!… (more)

Made in South Africa
I often find myself avoiding political debates on social media. I am ill-equipt when it comes to discussing the state of our countrys affairs (and some of those “discussions” are pretty irrational – so thanks, but I’ll pass). To avoid looking like a straight up idiot I rather keep quiet and say a prayer. I pray because I am “made in South Africa” – so yes, I am concerned!
The recent uproar about our weak rugby team and the fact that we “don’t have what it takes” as a country to win the world cup messed me up though. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, South Africa had lost against Japan at a very important 2015 Rugby World Cup match and people were totally disgusted with our national sides performance. Look, let me not sugar coat things: I do not watch rugby, nor do I have an intense desire to. Whaaat? A couple of big looking guys, running around with a ball (and passing it to each other backwards, nogals), just does not make sense to me. And yes, we have bigger fish to fry than whether or not we win a sports game. But when it comes to big sporting events like, for example, the Rugby World Cup, then I am without a shadow of a doubt an extremely big Springbok fan! Whether they win or lose!
“Why?” You ask.
“You dislike rugby!” I hear you say.
“You can’t even name one player from the national rugby team!” You shout out in anguish. Just calm down, Margaret. Yes, these are all true facts. But even though I am not a rugby fan, I am definitely a fan of South Africa. And even though I can’t give you my opinion on the ‘Fees must fall’ debacle or the ‘Give back the land’ situation, it doesn’t change the fact that this is my country too!I love South Africa. I love it with its over-zealous car guards, power outages, crazy politics and embarrassing politicians. I even love it with its “we’re a rainbow nation but also, we’re not, but also, we are” mentality. I love South Africa because it’s mine. The same like with my children. I mean, my kids sometimes drive me cray cray and Hubstopher and I often look at each other and ask “can we send them back?” but they are mine and I am theirs and so, by default, my heart belongs to them. And it is with this sense of belonging that I love my country. I was born here, my roots are here, it is the place of my heritage and the home of my forefathers.
What is UP with South Africans now a days? We are a bunch of extremely passionate people who either love fiercely or hate even more fiercelier (is that a word?). We shake our heads and post updates about how disappointing South Africa is. We speak DEATH over our country, by moaning and complaining and being negative. We bring up the past and demand everyone to feel the way we do and if you don’t then you’re either delusional or privileged. Well, I’m neither (thanks), but I refuse to speak curses over the land that my children will grow up in.
And then we wonder why things aren’t changing! Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Your words create! We need to start watching what we speak over our country – whether it be dissecting the state of the government or bad mouthing Piet The Coach because our national rugby team lost to a “weaker” team. (Okay, I don’t know what the rugby coach’s name is. Don’t judge me. Let’s move on, shall we?)
Sure, I don’t understand the complexity of the team selections and the politics behind the players or the fact that the government didn’t *insert number of miscellaneous offences here*. At the end of the day, none of the above makes me any less of a South African. South Africa is STILL a part of me, and me of it. And I will always want the best for this country.
So, call it patriotic.
Faithful. Dedicated.
Stupid. Whatevs.I call it: Home.
I was made here. My label says Proudly South African. And not “Made in China”. En ek se dankie vir dit.
