Metrosexual Shmetroshexual

Photo: cloutfit.com So I like a guy that smells good and looks clean.
I mean, obviously that guy is my betrothed, Chrissy.
But I’ve just been thinking about guys in general and how some seem to be so unperturbed by their appearance.
Ladies love looking good!
I’m sure we do it for ourselves but also for the man in our lives (or to get that man LOL).
And men appreciate a lady who looks after herself. Right?
So what am I missing here guys?
Why do some guys just not “GET IT”?
Is it over confidence and zero self-esteem issues?
Is it because they hate the term “metro sexual”?
Is it … because they don’t even know what on earth I’m ranting about right now?
Either way, a tip to all you single guys out there, looking to meet your future Future!
– Smell good, at all times (colognes are a nice idea). Deodorants are good, but there is NOTHING like a guy who has his own smell. (And I mean GOOD smell) It makes you wana spray some of what he’s using on your teddy bear, to help you fall asleep at night.
– Brush yo hair! For real! Brush it! Just brush eeet!!!!!! Yes we see those tentacles! Yes it bugs us!
– Trim yo nails, brother! Unless you want us to do a french manicure on you. In that case, you have issues.
– Fresh breath is a must. Always. This is not just for when you want a smooch. Breath escapes your lips when you talk too. Now you know. My pleasure.
– Look after your body. Look, we’re not looking for the next David Hasselhoff, but being a bit more conscientious about the amount of Big Macs you’re scoffing down, would be a plus.
– Do not burp or fart in front of us (purposefully). No its not cute or funny. I promise.
– Yes we can see that stain on the front of your shirt!!!!
– Change your socks daily. I’m being serious about this.
– Wash your hands after you’ve used the loo!
– Tame your eyebrows – Vaseline works!
– Look after your skin!
– Lotion / Creams are your friend! Aint nothing worse than scaly, dry, hands.
– Guys, I know it might seem reeeaaaally hard to make your clothes match. But it’s SUCH a pleasure seeing a guy actually put some thought into what he is going to wear. It’s like “hey, he really does care!”Hope I helped someone, somewhere be a little more conscientious about how they are representing themselves 🙂

The Thief: Our engagement story
I know I’ve been really bad at keeping my blogs up to date, so here I am to redeem myself with a very special engagement post. On the 30th of December 2012, Chris proposed and I said: YES! 🙂 <3
The gory details:
Chris made me rehearse for a whole afternoon because we were meant to do a song item at church. I sang my little heart out, trying to get this thing perfect. Chris ended up inviting our families to church and everything, so that they could see us do the item AND he was leading worship so it was a special service for us anyways. Little did I know that the dude had something else up his (cardigan) sleeve. ANYWAYS… After worship it was time for the song item… Chris and I made our way to the stage, and I stand there, with a mic in my hand, waiting for him to start the song with his guitar. And nothing happens. I’m thinking, oh no, the sound guy forgot to plug the guitar in or something… All of a sudden a DIFFERENT song starts playing… And I’m a bit confused… coz this is definitely not the song we rehearsed! Lo and behold, my Chrissy starts singing to me 🙂 Right there! On the stage! Of corse, the congregation cheered him on when they realized what was happening! It only hit me like, few seconds later. Talk about delayed reaction.
He sang a song by one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Brooke Fraser, called “The Thief”. I’ve always told Chris that The Thief MUST be our wedding song! And now it will be. Anyways, so there I stand, as my boyfriend serenades me in front of the church, family and friends. He then went on one knee and said: “Luchae, I cant think of a better place to do this… in front of God, our friends and family. I said that I would do this before the end of 2012, and this is the night. Luchae Gie, will you marry me?”
Well, something along those lines… I was to busy crying and trying to hide my face in my hair to hear him hahaha. The congregation was sooooo awesome… cheering him on and encouraging me (telling me to say YES lol). Which I did. Of course. It was the most perfect moment ever! Anyways… we’ve set our wedding date for the 16th December 2013, which gives us plenty of time to plan and enjoy this time of being betrothed. By the way, I forget to say that. AAAAAAACK!
See pics below 🙂 We got it at lots of different angles coz everyone at church took pics.
God is so faithful!!!!!
Happiness is me!! <3

But oh! those Summer nights!
Summer’s around the corner and Mr Price seems to be speaking my fashion language! In honor of Tuesdays Are Shoesdays, I found really stunning pair of wedges on the Mr Price website. I know, right? Can I just stop with the Mr Price already?! I’m sorry guys, I’m hooked.
I love how bold these pieces are. Something that I am NOT! But hey, I am planning on getting a hair cut beginning of December, so why not a style makeover too? 🙂
I’m guesstimating that this entire spread will not cost you more than R500. Yes. Awesome.
Love the skirt! Love the wedge! Perfect for a (summer) night out. Love the animal print bangle and earrings. Soooo fetch! 😉
Happy Almost Summer!

Book Club: Wild by Cheryl Strayed (and an Oprah moment!)
Before I chat about this weeks review, Wild by Cheryl Strayed, I need to tell you a little story first! So last month we reviewed Captivating by John and his wife Stasi Eldredge and at the end of the meeting Anika (my spiritual momma) made an announcement: She had tweeted at Oprah’s Book Club about our very own South African book club and guess what:
OPRAH SENT US BOOKS!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCK! Yes, we literately all went: AAAACK! in the coffee shop.
Signed by Oprah and the author The book was this very same WILD, by Cheryl Strayed – hand picked for us by the wonderful Oprah. Wild is an autobiography written by Cheryl about her experiences while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail during the Summer of 1995. Yes girls, she did this all on her own some! See write up here:
A powerful, blazingly honest memoir: the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe—and built her back up again.
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.
Strayed faces down rattlesnakes and black bears, intense heat and record snowfalls, and both the beauty and loneliness of the trail. Told with great suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild vividly captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Now, as Christian, Lord-loving gals, we obviously found the Jesus in this book 🙂 and I must say that it totally brought us back to: Spending time alone with God. I mean, I woulda totally had some holy spirit moments if I were to hike any trail by myself, without seeing anyone for DAYS! Cheryl says she discovered herself on that trail… proof that it’s such a recipe for uncovering the deepness of God, getting to know Him and who YOU are in Him and just totally surrendering to Him.
Oh btw, we had breaki at The Blue Orange, in Walmer. It was a windy day and the only seating they had available for us was outside. So it was a bit chills. Breakfast wasn’t that amazing. The coffee, however, made my day! While taking pics outside (like proper weirdos), one lady asked us what we were taking pics for. We then explained our book club to her, and showed her our wonderful Oprah book. Yes, she also totally AAAACKED.
Especially when we gave her a spare copy of the book! She literally almost cried 🙂

Pantry Party!!
Sup y’all! I’ve been quiet of late, coz I’ve been busy of late. Hmm… who came up with the term “of late”… it sounds weird. Any the hoo! My bestie is getting married soon! AAAAAAAACK! I (along with my fellow bridesmaid) hosted a pantry party at the beautiful Bonamia restaurant on Saturday morning. Yes, I said morning. That’s coz it was a breakfast party, of sorts. Which worked out excellently for us, because we were able to order scrumptious breakfasts for all the guests and were out of there by 11:30! So Tess had the rest of the day to sort out wedding stuff etc.

I had meant to hang up a washing line, with these dish clothes etc on it. But there was no space in the restaurant for my creativity. Boohoo. She didn’t mind, either way 🙂 Please note her totally cute outfit 🙂 Love the apron. Wish I coulda gotten it in purple (wedding colors). But pink still works. The hat is compliments of her sister (fellow bridesmaid). I think it adds some Je ne sais quois to her already darling outfit 🙂 hehehe

If the vases were a bit more broader, I woulda added more spatulas to my “kitchen utensil bouquet”. Oh and please note The Good Wife’s Guide on your left. Its a 1955 magazine article written in all seriousness about how to be a good wife. Yeah. I know, right? Google it. Its pretty funny. 🙂
Our family group sisters baked some “nom nom nom” worthy goodies, which I promptly decorated with my little toothpick flags 🙂 Please see my ridiculously fabulous scarf used as a table runner.

So I had created a personalized logo for Tess’s party. The theme was “Theresias Kitchen”. I used this logo on the thank you cards, banners, invites etc. The coins are actually made out of chocolate, and I used them as prizes when we played games.
Oh, talking about games, these 2 were super cute:
1. Guess the utensil
I printed a bunch of really interesting kitchen utensil pictures, and had her guess what it was used for.2. Whats that powder?
I had a few different “white kitchen powders” and she had to guess (without smelling or tasting) which powder it is (eg. washing powder, flour, icing sugar)

Above would be what I’d like to call a STAPLE in every kitchen. I love me some paper towels. Anyways, the guests each sent me their favorite EASY recipe, which I will be adding to a personalized cookbook for Tess! This cookbook will include pics of the pantry party and personal messages from each guest. Guests were encouraged to give gifts that are themed around their recipe. Eg. I shared my Luchaes Secret Molto Gustoso Pasta recipe with her (yeah, the name is awesome 🙂 and my gift was spaghetti, pasta sauces and pasta spoons etc.
We had lots of fun and Tess appreciated the cooking tips, recipes, ingredients and kitchen goodies. I’m sure her future hubby will enjoy them too!

Book Club: Captivating by John & Stasi Eldredge
This past few days I got into John and Stasi Eldredge’s novel, Captivating. Can I just say: WOW! This book was really something else. When I first started reading it, I was like… bleeuuughghghghghghghhghghghg…. But then it started speaking to me in words that totally made sense and I found myself going “I know!!! right?!!!!” and “Ohhhhhh now I see” outloud. Sometimes in public.
Okay lets get the venue and food out of the way (yes, the book is THAT good!) We had breaki at a place called Marilyn’s (duh, tribute eating spot to the great Monroe). Food was average’ish. I had a Marilyn breakfast, I think.
Right, back to the book! Aaack! This is such a MUST READ for all you females out there. I know that I am like more than a few days late with this post, but its so fitting to chat about this today, since yesterday we celebrated Woman’s Day in South Africa.
Captivating is more than just a self help book. This book speaks to the heart of every woman and our desire to be loved, wanted, needed and delighted in. The question burning in every female heart is: Am I lovely?
And as Stasi and John explained, even as young girls we dress up as princesses and fairy’s and yearn to be delighted in. This is recognizable in the age old question: “Do I look pretty?” (now disguised as “does this make me look fat?” )I learnt that as women, we are powerful beyond what we can imagine. Uhm, hello, the serpent in the garden tempted Eve, not Adam. Not because she was daft. But because she was the way IN. Woman are the “relationship builders”. They hold families and friendships together. They know when its so-and-so’s birthday or 20th wedding anniversary. They urge husbands to visit loved ones in hospital or donate something to the little boy standing on the corner with a shiny tin in his hand. We were built to be relational. Therefore the most important thing about you, as a woman, is your HEART. We are known as the crown of creation!
God has a special purpose for every single woman he has placed on Earth. You were made in His image and created to be relational like He is. God yearns to be in relationship with us, and He has given females that desire to love on others the way He does. But because of past hurts and mindsets forged while growing up, we have somehow moved away from what He wants for us.
Stasi speaks about her moms death and how the roles of females in our lives, kinda programme us to see ourselves a certain way. In the same way, our dads and their love and excitement over us as little girls, totally impacts how we view ourselves as adults.
I’ve really learnt so much about why I tick the way that I do. God has a purpose for every single heart. He wants to draw you out of the muck that the world has “taught” you to feel about yourself and show you your true beauty and value! He wants to reveal to you that you are the IRREPLACEABLE heroine in YOUR life story. That you ARE lovely. How might God be inviting YOUR heart to come alive?
Happy Woman’s Day to all!
Farewell
My grandma passed away yesterday morning. I had to say farewell to the lady that was more than just a grandma to me. She raised my sis, bro and I, so it is a big loss in our family. It was a very quick burial, because she was Muslim and they believe that the dead must be buried before the sun goes down. So it was all very impersonal and formal – altho, we shed alot of tears.
I found myself feeling very guilty and tired and angry at myself, for not being more of a granddaughter. I could’ve been a better one. I could’ve done more. I don’t know. I guess its to late to turn back time now. Yeah yeah yeah and I know that there is no condemnation in Christ. But I am filled with regret and heartache. Strange how its the only things comforting me right now, as scary as that sounds.
I was reading Romans, Jeremiah and Isaiah last night. I needed to hear from God so bad. And then He gave me Isaiah 44:22-24.
21-22″Remember these things, O Jacob. Take it seriously, Israel, that you’re my servant. I made you, shaped you: You’re my servant. O Israel, I’ll never forget you. I’ve wiped the slate of all your wrongdoings. There’s nothing left of your sins. Come back to me, come back. I’ve redeemed you.” 23High heavens, sing! God has done it. Deep earth, shout! And you mountains, sing! A forest choir of oaks and pines and cedars! God has redeemed Jacob. God’s glory is on display in Israel.
I know that He loves me and that in His eyes I’m still a princess. Gotta soak that up right now, I guess and start healing. Hope you’re having an awesome week.
God in every season
I often take comfort in the fact that God is God. Always the same, always powerful, always there, even when I change. Sometimes, when I’m having one of my “Luchae Moments” (they happen often 🙂 I remind myself that MY God is the God of Abraham. MY God is the God of David. MY God is the Father that Jesus prayed to. He goes way back like that. And He has never ever changed or redirected His love from me.
Hmmm where am I going to with this? Okay… So for our Arise Womens Conference this year, our theme song is called “Desert Song” by Brooke Fraser and the hook of the song goes:
All of my life, in every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
Those words hold so much truth! And I guess this is what I’m meant to blog about today. Because we go through SO many season in our lives. A season of pruning, preparation, growth, harvest and more. Whatever you’re going through right now is only for a season and instead of fighting it, you could be going: “Sup God? What would You like me to do right now?” Having a fantastic prayer life could only really help you understand and accept what it is you’re supposed to be doing or learning in the season that you are currently in.
I remember a time when I was cut off from ALL my old friends and felt really sorry for myself, until I realized that it was a season and I needed to learn something out of it. Now I have many friends who are so close to me that I call them FAMILY. It’s crazy. But so awesome.
What season are you in? Are you in a season of harvest where you have it all and more keeps coming? Maybe you’re supposed to be sowing into someone else’s life. Are you in a season of pruning and it feels as if you’re losing everything and it hurts like crazy? Maybe God is removing certain things from your life so that you can grow tall. Are you in a season of productivity? Maybe you should revaluate what your fruits are.
God uses it all for His glory and for your benefit. That’s how He rolls. And through it all… through every up and down… God is still God. There is good in the season you are in right now even if you don’t see it or understand it and for that, you have a reason to praise His name. He is faithful every single time! This is truth.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
‘For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.’
So what is Geocaching?
The love of my life is a nerd and its been rubbing off on me. But who am I kidding, nerdy things are actually pretty interesting! Chris introduced me to this really really awesome thing called Geocaching and I am hooked! Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Woman get to the point. What is Geocaching, huh?!”
Allow me to explain…
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. CACHE is just a nerdy word for “treasure box.”
Caches are all hidden by other geocachers such as yourself with the the intention of making your hiding place as inconspicuous as possible with one rule – the treasure cannot be buried.
When cache “hunting, you simply go onto the website and allow your device location to pull up a map of your area. You’ll be able to see a list of caches in your area, along with clues and little hints, to help make your treasure hunting easier.
Once you’re at the location, you start looking for the cache. The cache can be anything really. We’ve found cache’s made out of plumbing, fake rocks and even wood!
In a cache, you will find: 1. A note basically saying you have just found a geocache (just in case any “muggles” i.e. non geocachers, stumble upon the cache)
2. A log book and pen so that you/your team can log that you guys found the cache.
3. Sometimes a geocoin (which is a trackable device)
4. Whatever else the “hider” put in there. Normally small trickets/items. But the rule is: you have to replace the item with something of the same value. So if I find a marble in the cache, I need to replace it with something that is of equal value. You don’t HAVE to remove the item from the box. We normally leave a guitar plectrum in each cache we find, just to say “hey, we were here!”
The cache should then be rehidden on the same spot for the next geocacher to find. You would then log your find on the website.
There is a whole community of geocaches out there! And you’re probably thinking, no ways, there are NO geocaches where I live, coz we are like, SO off the map… well that’s what I thought! Caches are hidden in parks, or areas that are really fun to explore. So it’s a cool way to spend time with the fam.
So what do you think? Are you convinced? Drop me a comment to let me know if you’re going to give Geocaching a go!
Duh! Yes, you’re suppose to read my mind!
Sometimes I wonder what God was thinking when He created the female brain. Coz I sure as heck don’t understand it. And I’ve got one! I was just pondering on the fact that sometimes I want Chris to do something, but I don’t want to have to say it. My thought processes are normally like:
I’m fine! 🙂
I am SO not fine with this and if you don’t know that I’m not fine then grrr!
No, its cool you don’t have to do it! 🙂
Boy, you BETTER do it, if you know what’s good for you!
What makes you think I’m upset?? I’m not upset 🙂
AAAARRGH!!
I dont mind if you do that! 🙂
Gasp! How dare you! Is nothing sacred anymore?!
Ladies, do you feel me: there are some things that men are just suppose to get, right? Like, hello, you cannot watch rugby on Valentines Day and expect me to be okay. And no, you cannot take your friends to our secret romantic spot and “chill”. Some things are just suppose to be known. For everything else, there’s MasterCard. (As in, buy me food and we’re good).
But then, reasoning kicks in and I realize that I might need to give the poor guy a break. I mean, it makes me realize why he is always quiet when he thinks I’m upset – maybe its because he’s not sure whether I actually am upset. He’s just suppose to KNOW that I’m upset!! Why should I tell him?! Hmmf!!!!
Anyways, point: I do believe that I need to ease up on the guessing games. How will he know if I don’t tell him. Right? I mean, who am I, Professor Brain Doctor, trying to teach him how to pay attention to my every need and stuff? If I want an ice cream cone with chocolate sprinkles, I say “Hi, please can I have an ice cream cone with chocolate sprinkles?” and if I get the wrong one, then I can throw him with a chair or something. But why throw the chair if he doesn’t even know you want chocolate sprinkles? Save the chair until you have a good enough reason. The chair will always be there. The chair is faithful. The chair can be stowed away in a corner, half concealed, to serve as a threat and a reminder. Okay now I’m rambling.
If women are from Venus and men are from Mars, then this means that they should have a highly developed sense of ESP. This is my story and I’m sticking to it.
