Moms can wear Reebok too
The day has come, my friends. We’ve finally moved over to a space where sneakers are not given a bad rap anymore. Moms can wear Reebok too! I mean, you can wear your sneakers with just about anything, these days! (Can you hear the angels singing?) It’s totally acceptable attire to wear Reebok with your two-piece fancy suit. And you can even wear your favourite white sneakers, with a dress, to a party! Yep – it’s a whole vibe! A vibe I’ve been waiting for my whole life, tbh.
For those moms who, like me, thrive on being as comfortable as possible, I’m sure you’ll agree when I say: what a glorious time to be alive! We don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort anymore. In fact, there are a bunch of stunning sneaker designs, that are great-looking, and comfy and they will suit just about any occasion! I found a few on Superbalist. Take a look:

Classic white
The Reebok Club C Extra range has an exaggerated platform midsole, and white leather uppers, making it a really classic choice if you’re looking to pair your sneakers with a flowy dress. I would even pair these with a cute jumpsuit if I am looking for an amplified look without the discomfort of heels. You can find them here and here.

On the go
If you’re active and looking for a stunning pair of sneakers to do “sportsy” things in, I’ve found that a sleek design always helps to bring across the femininity that running shoes sometimes lack. These picks, from Reebok, offers a chunky sole (so on trend right now), are lightweight and they are really pretty to look at, which is a plus! You can find them here and here.

Make a statement
Show off your personality with a statement shoe! I found these gorgeous rose gold sneakers, with leather uppers, and I absolutely have to have them now! You can take a plain outfit from drab to fab with these sneakers, which features a bold metallic colour, asymmetrical design, and a stacked midsole, for height. I mean, these kicks are chic personified. You can find them here.
See? So moms CAN wear Reebok too! Which of these is your favourite?

Are you drinking enough water?
Are you drinking enough water? Interesting tidbit: The older you get, the less likely you are to sense thirst (Harvard study) This means that adults probably consume less water than they are supposed to.
Here are three reasons why you definitely should stay hydrated:
Bye bye toxins
Do you know that your sweat, urine and bowel movements help to regulate your body by flushing out toxins and keeping the body at the ideal temperature? Btw, suuuuper important: water helps to keep constipation at bay, since it helps to remove waste from the body.
Stay lubricated
Water helps to protect and cushion your joints, tissues and spinal cord! Staying hydrated will help your body to lubricate those essential joints and organs, which will then ensure that you have less pain and discomfort in those sensitive joints (ankles, elbows, legs, arms).
Better mental state
Dehydration can cause a range of negative emotions such as anxiety, confusion, and even fatigue. When you drink water, you sleep better, your mood is lifted and your body is able to perform at optimum level. Water helps to transport oxygen throughout the body, so it just makes sense to stay hydrated at all times!
Trust Aquazania with your waterIf you struggle to consume enough water everyday, consider getting a water dispenser. I love having a water dispenser in my kitchen! The water is always clean, pure and delicious. I also appreciate the convenience of having refill bottles delivered straight to my door, ensuring that I never run out of water.
Aquazania supplies a range of water coolers and water dispensers (rental or purchase). All bottled water coolers and small water bottles are purified and bottled in their state-of-the-art bottling and purification plant.
The Aquazania floor and countertop dispensers are simply stunning and the rental starts at about R150 per month. Totally worth it, if you consider the fact that you are receiving pure, filtered water with added convenience. The extra perk, for me, is the fact that I can use it to dispense hot (boiling) water as well! No need to boil a kettle!
If you’re keen to try out the Aquazania products, guess what, I am able to get you a lekker 2 month’s FREE rental, if you sign up using this link: https://bit.ly/aqualuchae

Keeping it cool with Converse and Rookie USA (WIN!)
I think I say this more than I probably should but my kids are way cooler than I am. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that they are cooler than I’ve ever been… in, like, my whole entire life.
I do think that it’s because kids today have a lot more liberty than we did growing up. I mean, as a kid, I didn’t dare tell my mom what I wanted to eat for supper. You eat what everyone else is eating. Meanwhile, my 5-year-old has decided that he only eats roasted potatoes, pizza, noodles and peanut butter sandwiches. Sometimes all at the same time.
My daughter, on the other hand, has a whole mind of her own (it’s the audacity for me) and enjoys choosing her own outfits, when getting dressed. I mean, when I was a kid, my outfits reflected whatever mood my mom was in. I also didn’t have much influence when it came to persuading my parents to buy me branded clothing. My kids get to shop (online nogals) from the Rookie USA store, and they get their pick of some of the swaggiest brands this side of the ozone layer.Rookie USA seriously has the best drip for kids. I mean, from Nike to Converse, to Levi’s, it’s literally an online store filled with fabulous clothes for small people. What is this life evens?!
As you may know, I am a yer-huuuuuuge Converse fan. I love my Chucks. In fact, I am getting a dog, just so that I can name him Chuck Taylor. (Was going to get another kid, but my husband says no). I’m a fan, okay.I am absolutely smitten with all of the rad Converse swag on the Rookie USA website. I especially love the frequent Converse collab’s that will have you swooooning at all the specially designed Converse sneakers, featuring some of your kids most favourite characters. My favorite themes to date has to be the Converse X Pokemon collab, the Converse X Space Jam collab and the current Converse X Peanuts collab.

For the Converse X Peanuts collab, Converse teams up with the iconic comic strip, Peanuts. Cool right?! This limited-edition Chuck Taylor All Star design features Charlie Brown, Snoopy and all the characters you know and love, on the classic canvas. These designs are so special and unique. I mean, I definitely have to get them all!
WIN with Rookie USA!Rookie USA is giving one lucky person a voucher to the value of R2000! To enter, simply check out this post on my Instagram grid. The giveaway ends at midnight on the 30 June! Good luck!

Yoto Player – the screen-free audio and music player for kids
Kids today are especially advanced when it comes to all things digital. I mean, my 6-year old could pretty much show me how to recalibrate my phone, if I asked her to. (No, I don’t think that re-calibrating a phone is a thing. But I’ll check with my 6-year old, just to be sure.) I get it though: we would LOVE to have our kids playing outside, you know, just climbing trees and making mud pies and scraping knees etc (all the stuff that our childhood was made out of) but the truth is that kids today will always be drawn to technology. Whether we like it or not.
And that is why I was really interested to learn more about the Yoto Player, when I heard that it recently launched in South Africa. Yoto is a screen-free audio and music player for kids, that encourages them to use their imagination. The Yoto Player acts as a Bluetooth speaker box. It is, essentially, an audio book player, with the books being cards that you can purchase and collect. The “book card” (as I like to call it) is inserted into the player giving the child full control over their listening experience.

I love this concept for numerous reasons. I’ll list mine below:
1. My children are a lot more captivated by the stories being told via the Yoto Player. I mean, they do enjoy reading but are easily bored.
2. Because its screen free, I love that they get to practice those imagination skills, painting a picture mentally while they are listening to the story.
3. It doesn’t take away the joy of using technology for fun. The Yoto Player app (oh yes, there is a phone app as well) also gives your child access to an abundance of entertaining content, which encourages imaginative play.
The Yoto smartphone app is so cool, you guys. It gives me access to the Yoto Player (you can control settings and content) as long as I am in close proximity to the device. There is a variety of free content available via the app (songs, audio games, more story books etc) and it even connects with Bluetooth speakers! How cool?! This is actually so perfect for those long road trips!
You can purchase and collect content cards (book cards), just like how you would build a library of books. But you can also load these books onto your app, to make it that much easier to play the content, when you’re on the go. Simply tap the the card to the back of your smartphone. Easy peasy. You are then able to manage your book library via the app. I love this!
Oh and guess what – you are able to purchase blank cards, which you can use to load your own content to! I mean, I can think of a bunch of things to do with these, like:1. Record your own voice, telling your kids favorite bed time stories. How comforting that will be for your little one to hear mom/dad’s voice at night, while settling into bed.
2. Get your children to sing specials songs and record them on the cards as a cool memory album.
3. Put together a compilation of songs, which can also be added to the blank cards.
Yoto Player was named one of TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2020 – that’s legit. Yoto Player is available for purchase at a recommended retail price of R2499. The Yoto smartphone app is available to download for free on iOS or Android. The Yoto Player is now available across the country at selected Toys R Us stores, iStores and a branded store on Takealot, South Africa’s leading online store.
I have a Yoto Player giveaway running on my Instagram right now (it ends on Monday 25th!) so follow this link to enter!

What do you know about the Uber In-App Emergency Button?
I recently learnt about the Uber In-App Emergency Button and, I must admit, the e-hailing service went from amazing to even more amazinger™ (words by Luchae) in my books!
At the end of a busy day at the office, nothing is more relaxing to me, than a scenic drive home. There’s something about the peace and quiet, after the bustle of a busy day, that hits me right in the feels. And, when I’m not driving myself home, I must admit I get a kick out of sinking into the backseat of an Uber, while the driver’s choice of music settles my mind. I mean, as a mom who works full-time, nothing beats a couple of minutes of “alone time” albeit in an Uber.
I’ve always felt safe during my Uber trips. And I appreciate that their safety measures are so stringent. I mean, with all the e-hailing services available these days, I take comfort in knowing that Uber sets the standard for safety by having over 20 dedicated features to ensure its community’s wellbeing.
For starters, Uber’s checklists (that riders and drivers must acknowledge before the ride), ensures that both parties are Covid-19 compliant.
The Check Your Ride protocol helps you to verify that you are getting into the right car. Riders have a view of the driver’s information, including photo, license plate and car make/model.
You are also able to share your location – giving a loved one access to your geolocation and ETA all in real-time!
With Uber’s Safety Toolkit, the app houses all its unique safety features in one convenient spot. Identifiable by a shield logo, it can be found on the bottom right when on the app. Trusted Contacts and the in-app emergency button can all be accessed from this by simply tapping on the shield. In fact, you are able to designate up to five friends and family members as Trusted Contacts, to be prompted to share trip details with them during every ride or night-time trips. How cool is that?
A key feature that certainly stands out is the In-App Emergency Button. During a ride, with the push of a button in the app, you can connect directly to private security and medical assistance when needed via a third-party supplier. This key feature sets the app high in my rankings as an option of travel (especially when alone), as a female!
Thanks to technology, Uber’s Ride Check can even identify rare events like unexpected stops or possible crashes, with its response team contacting you to check on your safety!
I mean, how’s that for riding with safety?! These safety measures, and the e-hailing services commitment to driver and rider safety, is what sets Uber apart for me, without a doubt!

Fisher-Price Linkimals: My baby’s new crew of talking, singing, light-up friends
When it comes to friends, one could say that I’m my baby’s bestie. I mean, it’s a no brainer… the kid wants to hang out with me, like, 24/7! And hey, I don’t mind at all – have you seen his cheeks? Best cheeks in all the land. But – not gon’ lie – I was super keen when I heard that Fisher-Price Linkimals were being launched in South Africa!
For those who don’t know, this toy is dubbed as “baby’s crew of talking, singing, light-up friends” (yes, just like in my title), because it’s loaded with exciting interactive play elements that are both fun and educational.

The fun lights and songs introduces baby to counting, colours and more! Pressing the Linkimals Musical Moose starts a totally rockin’ light-up learning party (one could say it’s “lit”) and, what’s even more fun is the synchronized music and light show when a bunch of Linkimals are hanging out together!
The Linkimal characters “recognize” each other and they create a synchronized music and light show. How legit?! So the more Linkimal characters you have, the better!
Where development comes into play:
Early Academics: Sung songs and phrases introduce your baby to colours and counting from 1 to 10!
Sensory: The moose’s light-up belly, playful songs and sounds, and soft antlers engage your baby’s developing visual, auditory, and tactile senses.
Curiosity & Wonder: Your baby can discover the fun of cause and effect as they press the belly button to activate music and lights or bat at the bobble head. This toy is perfect for babies ages 9 months and older. Fisher-Price Linkimals are available from Toys R Us.This post was paid for by Brand Alley. -
Rummikub is 70! {Win!}
When I think of Rummikub, I immediately remember bunking class to play a few rounds of the strategy game with university buds, while chewing on whatever munchies we could forage from our backpacks.
Yep – I was that student – I totes bunked class. But also, I was thaaat student… I bunked class to play a board game. Call me a nerd, but not to my face.
Anyways, years later Rummikub is still a firm fave! My new opponents are unsuspecting family members who are often amused at my level of competitiveness when it comes to the game. Best moment is getting to shout out “Rummikub!” as I slap my final tile on the table! I mean, I can’t help it. Must. Outwit. Them. All.
The game basically involves using the numbered tiles, on your rack, to build sets (same number) or groups (running numbers, in same color). The player with the least amount or no tiles left, at the end of game play, is the winner. That’s the awesome thing about Rummikub though. It has the fun family element that most board games have. But it’s also such a cool strategy game… it keeps you on your toes.
So the fact that it is celebrating 70 years of bringing friends and families (and university students) together is definitely a celebration worth noting!
The range of Rummikub board games can be purchased from Toy Kingdom, Toy Zone, The Kid Zone and Takealot. Or purchase directly from the Prima Toys website: https://www.primatoys.co.za/rummikub
But wait – there’s more! To celebrate 70 years of fun, Rummikub would like to give one MSB reader a Rummikub Experience!

Ace that space with Sunstar GUM
A huge lesson that I am taking with me after all of the 2020 shenanigans (for lack of a better word) is that health is wealth! I mean, we’ve all been reminded of the value and importance of looking after your body #amiright?
I was also reminded that a healthy mouth and fresh breath goes hand in hand with a healthy body.
In fact, September is National Oral Health Month and Sunstar GUM is on a mission to help us ‘ace that space’ by efectively cleaning in-between teeth for a healthier mouth and body.
Did you know that only a third of South Africans floss or clean in-between regularly? Shocking, right? (I mean, how shocked am I really when I am NOT a part of that third… I know, I’m giving myself a stern talking to…)According to dental experts, you actually NEED to clean between teeth every day. Children should start cleaning in-between once their permanent teeth start to touch. It’s actually good to get them to play with interdental tools at a young age, familiarizing them with the concept of healthy teeth.
Fortunately, Sunstar GUM makes it pretty easy to keep our “inbetweens” clean, with their unrivalled range of flosses, tooth picks and tiny interdental brushes. There is literally an interdental tool for everyone… even if your gaps are small or you wear orthodontic braces!
Oh and they’ve made it even easier for those of us (me, definitely me) who are too busy/lazy to actually figure out which interdental tool would suite your needs. Simply visit the Ivo Health website and take the Sunstar GUM #AceThatSpace quiz (www.ivohealth.co.za/ace-that-space).
Besides for letting you know exactly what you need to keep your pearly whites, well, pearly white, by completing the quiz you also enter yourself into a cool giveaway. You could win prizes valued at over R1,200 – including top quality Sunstar GUM oral care tools and a professional EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy Treatment with a Swiss Dental Academy qualified oral hygienist.
According to the Sunstar GUM #AceThatSpace quiz, my perfect interdental tool is the Sunstar GUM Easy Flossers which are designed to make between-teeth cleaning easy and (very important) FAST! I like that it has an easy to grip handle and that it’s shred-resistant. This makes it ideal for kids and those who may find traditional floss difficult to manage. It also comes in a handy travel case.
Hubstopher has sensitive gums and would probably have to use the Sunstar GUM Expanding Floss. It’s thin and easy to insert between teeth, comfortably. Once inserted, it then cleverly expands for a more effective clean around the tooth and gum line. This one is ideal for those with small gaps between teeth or if you have sensitive or receding gums.If you have orthodontics, bridges or implants, guess what, there’s an interdental tool for you too! The Sunstar GUM Soft-Picks Advanced is perfect for you because it has a curved dental pick (the only curved pick on the market, btw). The curve follows the natural shape of the joy, which makes it easy to reach between each tooth. The soft rubber bristles helps to gently dislodge food and plague. What’s more, it is available in small, regular and large. How’s that for convenience?
But wait, there’s more! Sunstar GUM makes it even easier for you to practice good dental hygiene with their genius Sunstar GUM Red-Cote Disclosing Tablets. Once chewed, these tablets make it easy to find plaque by colouring the plaque red. You are then able to target the areas that need extra care, ensuring that your teeth and gums are completely clean! This product is recommended by dental professionals to help children learn to brush and clean between the teeth effectively, and for adults who want to check how well their oral care is working.
WIN a Sunstar GUM oral care kit valued at R812!We’re giving away a Sunstar GUM #AceThatSpace oral care kit valued at R812. It contains everything you need to ‘ace that space’ including a Sunstar GUM ActiVital Sonic brush, floss, three types of interdentals, GUM Original White paste and mouth rinse.

Ride Safe with Uber
I’m a professional Uber-rer (is that a word?) but, with the Covid-19 pandemic floating around, I’ve been a bit more nervous about climbing into a driver’s vehicle.
I was so relieved to read about Uber’s fantastic #RideSafeWithUber campaign and the protocol that they’ve put in place to ensure that both the rider AND the driver remains safe at all times!
I mean, Covid-19 has drastically changed the way we live (and think!) and we’ve had to adjust to a new normal. So I’m quite pleased that Uber has decided to enhance the safety features available on the Uber app.

Pre-trip
A new interactive safety checklist, that both driver and rider must acknowledge before booking the trip, helps to keep both parties committed to following the necessary guidelines. This is super helpful because it reminds you to wash your hands and wear your mask etc. Drivers are required to follow WHO/local public health authority Covid-19 regulations, which means that cars must be sanitised before or after each trip. Riders are reminded to sit in the backseat and to open windows for ventilation.
BTW I think it’s so rad that Uber has partnered with YES to supply the drivers with a mask, should they need one, and that they reimburse eligible drivers for the one-time spend on sanitiser or disinfectant.
On tripMasks are mandatory, as per the government’s safety guidelines. It just makes sense! Both riders and drivers are not allowed to remove masks, once inside the Uber.
Post trip
Both the rider and the driver are encouraged to leave feedback, via the app, regarding the safety and hygiene of the trip. Drivers and riders are prompted to report any behaviour that makes them feel safe, in any way. In fact, drivers can even report a situation where a rider removes a mask at any point during the trip! The feedback received through these will be considered in accordance with Uber’s mandatory use of face masks.
But wait, there’s more!Uber has introduced mask detection – an in-app tool that detects if drivers are wearing a mask or not. How legit is this?! Drivers will be asked to take a selfie to confirm that they are wearing a face covering and once confirmed, riders will receive a message to say that the driver has taken all necessary precautions, to ensure a safe trip.
Should the Uber arrive and the driver or rider are not wearing a mask, both parties are able to cancel the trip and will not be charged a cancellation penalty!
Maximum seating capacity has been reduced to 50% per vehicle, and riders are encouraged to sit in the back seat, with enough physical distancing between rider and driver.
As always, contactless payment is available, such as Uber Cash options with EFT and Barter.
So, as you can see, Uber really has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of both rider and driver. I appreciate that they’ve put so many safety measures in place and that they care for both the driver and an actual Uber-rer, like me.
What do you think about Uber’s Covid-19 safety measures?

How to celebrate a birthday when you’re stuck at home {Win!}
Stuck at home, on the brink of celebrating a birthday, and you’re not exactly sure how you’re going to do any celebrating at all? Well then, friend, this post is for you!
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, lock down birthdays are now a thing. And, I mean, you’re probably considering the fact that you kinda need, well, other people in order to put the “party” into “birthday party”. And you’re not wrong. But there are ways and means to celebrate the birthday boy/girl, even though you’re limited on people and resources.
I love birthdays! And I believe that the only real bummer, about a solid birthday celebration, is not having a solid birthday celebration. And you can quote me on that!
Anyways, before I break into song, dance and monologue, allow me to share with you my list of ways to celebrate a birthday when you’re stuck at home:
1. DecorationsDecorating a room in the house, as a surprise, is an easy and cheap way to make a birthday guy/gal feel special! A sneaky late night set up will have your special person waking up to a gloriously festive birthday hoorah in the morning! Here are some ideas:
A balloon wall – All I’m saying is that balloons have the magical powers to make any room feel a lot more festive. There are no hard rules when it comes to this. The more balloons the better! A balloon wall would most definitely impress. Find an easy tutorial here.
Streamers pinned to the door frame – Who wouldn’t want to open their bedroom door, on the morning of their birthday, to find this colorful surprise awaiting them?! Tutorial here.
Make your own bunting – I did this for Jonah’s birthday. His “lock down birthday” theme was Obnoxious Spiderman which is my way of saying that I made sure to incorporate as many images of Spiderman in the decor. He’s 3 years old, and Spidey is his hero, so this totally made his day. Tutorial here.
2. Presents
So we figured out that Jonah was super excited to open a ton of gifts because he had been eyeing all the gifts his sister received at her birthday party. Since we were unable to invite guests to celebrate with him, that meant that there would be no pile of presents for him to open. So we decided to get him a bunch of smaller gifts (things like color in books and crayons, small games, puzzles etc) and wrapped them up individually so that he would have his very own “birthday party gift pile” to indulge in.
3. Drive and DropI know that drive-by parties are all the rage and if you have friends and family members who would be keen to do a drive and drop, then that’s swell! Make it extra festive with balloons and a sign that says “Hoot once for the birthday boy!” displayed outside. Birthday boy/girl could have their own special chair set up, so that they can bestow their royal birthday wave, as their friends drive by.
If you don’t want your guests to leave empty handed, a slice of birthday cake, in a takeaway box, will do the trick. (For teens, how about a slice of pizza?) And again, this is particularly helpful if you have friends and family members who are looking for an opportunity to celebrate with you, and want to drop off a prezi.
4. Fun activities
You could totes make the day fun by arranging a cool scavenger hunt (ooh, hide away the gifts and design a real treasure map!) or by playing backyard or board games with your family. A “game show birthday party” is a fun way to bring some extra glitz and glamour to your celebrations. The usual foray of birthday party games (pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs) are always a hit and will definitely help to keep the energy up!
5. Virtual fiestaWe fortunately have the technology to stay in touch, even though we can’t physically be in the same room. You may consider hosting a Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype or House Party celebration.
Teens might prefer connecting with their buddies via Xbox or Playstation online gaming. Yep, it’s totally a thing now, parents. I know, I suddenly feel old too.
6. Cake!
I mean, without cake is a party a party? (The correct answer is “heck no”) I knew that I wanted to go big with Jonah’s birthday cake, so I called in an expert to assist.
I had been eyeing the creations over on the Whole Latte Love Facebook page and knew that Leanne would nail my Spiderman birthday cake idea. Leanne’s love for baking started when she tried her hand at making her nieces and nephews birthday cakes. People were kinda impressed with her skill (also, guys, this cake is flippen delicious!) and word got out, which resulted in the start of a little business.

When I asked for a list of flavours to choose from, these were the ones that I had my eye on:
Chocolate chip cake with caramel and chocolate ganache
Chocolate cake with chocolate fudge buttercream
Mint chocolate chip cake with mint buttercream and chocolate pieces
Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream / Swiss meringue buttercream
Carrot cake filled with homemade caramel and salted caramel buttercream
Red velvet cake with Oreo pieces and Oreo cream cheese icing
Hummingbird cake with cream cheese icing
Lemon meringue cake filled with lemon curd and covered with toasted meringue
Toffee apple cake filled with homemade caramel and cinnamon buttercream
I know what you’re thinking… YUM! I ended up choosing the chocolate cake with chocolate fudge buttercream because chocolate “cakey” is my boys absolute favorite. The price was quite reasonable and she ended up totally making all my Spidey birthday cake dreams come true. Plus she delivers during lock down. If that isn’t rad, then I don’t know what is!
Other treats available:
Brownies (available in different flavours!), Blondies, Cupcakes (available in a variety of flavours), Cheesecake mousse cakes, Profiteroles, Eclairs, Lammingtons, Cinnamon rolls and more! You can place your order via Facebook.
Win a dozen cupcakes for from Whole Latte Love!Guess what my friends *I say, dramatically, with tears in my eyes* …. Whole Latte Love is giving one of you a dozen of her most delicious cupcakes, to help you celebrate that special ‘lock down birthday’! I KNOW! I’m not crying, you’re crying! Okay, I’m totally crying.
